Spring sunshine awakens bamberger gastro scene to bustling activity. Some local communities are staying the course, but new meeting places are being created. As in one of bamberg’s most prominent locations. Standing beer on the upper brucke: the brewery kaiserdom now invites you to it. The rathausschanke is serving again.

Landlord oliver lippel makes a virtue out of necessity: because the access road to the castle is being renovated from may to august and is closed from the lower parking lot, guests have to make the last leg to fub. Pia and uwe kohl have fulfilled a dream – a piece of tuscany in bamberg: "we have been given the unique opportunity to take over one of the most beautiful and well-known locations in bamberg", reports the owner. In scheblitz the couple with the move has admittedly torn a gastronomic hole. Since 2012, the two have been running the trattoria in the old coachman’s yard there.

Regulars will also miss two places on erba island: the relatively new fish restaurant 49 degrees north, which used to tempt customers with its barlauch capers, fresh oysters or smorrebrod variations, has closed down. Apparently due to water damage – of all things. Also the folding boat has closed. In the social media, the task has provoked many sad comments. The landlord does not give a reason, but is looking for a successor for the restaurant.

Bruckertshof fills up

Spring cleaning continues: on the northern outskirts of the city, the bruckertshof has recently reopened. "Also our beer garden is filling up more and more", reports karin weinert, who together with her husband jorn – known from "hoffmanns steak&" – is the owner of the castle fish" – the local runs.

Ice cream here, sandwiches there

Hope for the weissbierhaus

In the upper konigsstrabe, spring is reviving even those that were thought to be dead: the weissbierhaus is soon to reopen. A new leaseholder has been found, and the contract is to be made watertight in the next few days, the owner reports. "Frankish food, as the people were used to it" there should be – much should remain as the regulars know it. Also the rooms upstairs are renovated. The landlady is in the starting blocks.
