The terraced house in nurnberg-langwasser is almost empty. In the living room a dining table, some chairs, in a corner a television on the floor. No picture on the wall, no carpet, no other furniture – nothing. A sterile, uncomfortable atmosphere. For almost a year, pastor peter ditterich has lived here, together with his housekeeper susana czeizel and oskar mellinger. He had previously lived in the same house as ditterich, on jakobsplatz in nurnberg’s center, within sight of the parish church st. Elisabeth.

But: the move to the south of nurnberg had become unavoidable. Because the old apartment had become uninhabitable due to aggressive mold infestation. In 2008, the mold had appeared for the first time. And thus a dispute broke out over the renovation of the apartment occupied by ditterich. In the clergyman’s opinion, the church foundation reacted too slowly to the rapidly spreading infestation, and ditterich called in the bishopric administration in bamberg. The first renovation measures were taken, but in the opinion of the priest and his housekeeper, they were insufficient.

The unacceptable living conditions, which in the meantime have also been medically certified, led to the hemiplegic clergyman, who is confined to a wheelchair, also contracting a severe lung disease. Once a month, he had to go to the hospital for inpatient treatment. Back at home, he had to be ventilated with oxygen around the clock – and still has to do so today. His housekeeper also fell ill. Pastor ditterich went to court, sued the church foundation for damages and compensation for pain and suffering.

The entire interior of the apartment was contaminated by black mold. The result: a legal dispute that has lasted for years and has not yet been concluded, numerous expert opinions, and high legal fees, which have now driven the pastor almost to financial ruin. Why there is no money to buy new furniture. "The church wants to finish us off", laments susana czeizel. Because the litigation costs would not end. That is why the clergyman now demands over 80.000 euros from the church foundation.

Is peter ditterich a bitter, quarrelsome spirit?? Dieter olschlegel, himself a retired evangelical clergyman, is a good friend of ditterich’s. Went to high school with him in bamberg for nine years. And to this day has always been in contact with his old classmate. He characterizes him as a good-spirited, always helpful and highly motivated clergyman, who was completely absorbed in his work. In his community, he has been a contact person for anyone who was in need. He set up a special counseling center, which was also used by prostitutes in the nearby red-light district.

When he found a single mother and her child crying in the city center in the 1980s – she was literally standing on the street – he took her in without further ado. "He helped wherever he could. That also made him so popular in his community" olschlegel emphasizes. To add that the years of litigation were also taking their toll on ditterich’s health. He is seriously concerned. "In this situation, where is the urgently needed personal and pastoral attention to ditterich by his pastor??", olschlegel asks. At the age of 72 and despite his disability, the clergyman still held office hours. Wanted to be there for people who sought his advice.

What is the bishopric management doing? Press spokesman harry luck points out that there have been repeated attempts to contact ditterich. One had the impression that he was being isolated from his surroundings. Vicar general georg kestel lieb said in a statement that he was very concerned about the health and well-being of the clergyman.

Unfortunately, he has repeatedly rejected offers of help such as a move to a retirement home or a new apartment suitable for senior citizens. Peter ditterich’s successor in office, pastor markus bolowich, is also aware that the situation has now taken on tragic proportions. Today he leads the community of st. Elisabeth and he woman what great accents his predecessor as a clergyman knew how to set. In the meantime, he continues to wait for the judiciary to finally rule in his favor.

To avoid plastic gauze, environmental groups call for drastic reductions. Strict regulation and bans had to be used to massively reduce plastic production and consumption, nature conservation organizations such as BUND, greenpeace and deutsche umwelthilfe explained in berlin on wednesday. On a list of demands to the federal government to pay a levy on particularly environmentally harmful disposable items such as plastic touts, disposable plastic bottles and coffee-to-go cups. A reasonable amount for a levy should be at least 20 cents, according to environmentalists.

According to the associations, plastic is one of the most serious and visible ecological burdens and overflows the environment – on land, in the sea and in the air. "Plastic avoidance is climate protection", said jurgen resch, managing director of deutsche umwelthilfe. In order to stop the flood of plastic, the entire value chain must be taken into consideration; previous political measures have not been sufficient. For example, disposable and packaging products should be replaced by reusable systems within a binding time frame and microplastic applications should be banned.

Resch said plastic bottles or beverage cartons had to be banned. Beyond beverage packaging, mandatory reusable quotas also had to be set for sales, transport and shipping packaging.

The wasteful use and careless throwing away had to be stopped, said barbara unmubig, chairman of the heinrich boll foundation. The environmental associations are also in favor of introducing speed limits and weight reductions for motor vehicles, up to and including a ban on suvs, to reduce tire abrasion. Tire abrasion produces thousands of tons of microplastics every year. BUND expert rolf buschmann says heavy suvs had a significant part in this.

There is also a call to set a target for waste reduction by 2030. Germany must make significant improvements in this area, says paper. In germany, he said, the amount of packaging waste has increased from year to year, to 227 kilograms per capita per year. A waste reduction target of no more than 90 kilos per capita per year should be set for packaging waste from 2030 onwards. "The future is unpacked", said greenpeace managing director martin kaiser.

In addition, there must be legal liability for damages according to the polluter-pays principle. Manufacturers are to be held responsible for the health, environmental and climate damage caused by their products. The associations also call for a stop to plastic waste exports. Eastern europe and southeast asia are now the dumping grounds for plastic waste from germany and around the world, kaiser said.

The ziegelerden horticultural association feels obliged to contribute to the improvement of the townscape. This was made clear by chairwoman margit schramm at the annual general meeting. The association hopes that in the next few years it will be able to attract younger members who are interested in this beautiful hobby, who want to enjoy it together and share their experiences.

So the association takes care of the maintenance of the village square and the tappenmacher square as well as the plantings at the st.-michaels church and the war memorial chapel in ziegelerden. An easter crown was also erected again on the village square. For the harvest festival, which in ziegelerden coincides with the church fair, the harvest altar is decorated with fruit, vegetables and products from the village and the region. She thanked all the helpers who made these activities possible. For this year the association is also thinking about organizing a half-day trip.

Renate bittruf has been a member of the association for 25 years. As she was unable to attend the meeting for health reasons, she will be visited to thank her for her loyal membership. Margit schramm also encouraged the older members of the association to come to the twice-monthly senior citizens' meetings in ziegelerden, which are organized by siglinde schramm. The events in the afternoon are a popular meeting in the village to cultivate the community in ziegelerden.

The minutes of the last annual general meeting, which were read out by secretary christine sackewitz, were accepted without objection. Treasurer herta baier referred in her report to an almost balanced balance sheet and a proper cash position and thanked for the donations of members. The cash auditors klaus noak and kathe bittermann confirmed that her cash management was impeccable.

Councilman ralf volkl thanked the horticultural association for its commitment to the maintenance of the public areas in ziegelerden. He suggested offering information events on the topics of gardening and nature, also to interest new members in the association. Also actions for children and families are conceivable.

cross for horst tempel

The district fire inspector horst tempel from presseck in kulmbach was awarded the cross for special services to the fire department. "You have earned outstanding merits with your activities", said the upper franconian government president heidrun piwernetz at the presentation of the cross on tuesday in bayreuth.
Horst tempel joined the presseck volunteer fire department in august 1972. There he was from april 1977 to march 1982 first deputy commander before he subsequently took over as first commander of the volunteer fire department until 1999. From 1. February 1982 until january 2014 he served as district fire chief in the district of kulmbach. Immediately thereafter and to this day, he performs the function of district fire inspector.
It can be seen from his background that he was given responsible management tasks at a very early stage, said government president piwernetz. During the operations he took full responsibility and was always to be found in an exemplary manner for the firefighters in the center of the action.

Acted prudently

In the long and experienced years of his service, horst tempel, despite his thoughtful and prudent actions, had found himself in situations in which he had to go to the justifiable limits of his own health in order to save casualties, preserve property, and avoid more serious damage.
The government president particularly emphasized horst tempel's great expertise, his high level of commitment to the training of the fire department youth, but also to the continuous further training and development of his team mates.
The honoree is also heavily involved in the planning of alerts and in the work and training for the introduction of digital radio.

summer high at the animal shelter forchheim

By julia heimberger

It meows, chirps and barks from all sides here in the animal shelter forchheim. "Yes, during the vacation season, things get busy. Every year we look forward to august with dread", explains marianne wende, chairwoman of the animal welfare association forchheim. During the summer vacations, the shelter is always completely full. But this is not due to the classic abandoned dog on the highway rest stop. But to an interplay of various factors: (injured) found animals, a flood of kittens, emergency cases from other animal shelters, relinquished animals, found young birds, guest animals and personnel shortages.

Even exotic animals are guests

Every year, the shelter takes care of about 900 animals, mostly dogs, cats and small animals. But also exotic guests can be found in the annual overview: domestic ducks, gray herons, swans, owls, hedgehogs, field hares, bats and numerous species of wild birds. "We have private foster homes for wild birds, tortoises and cat moms, reptiles come to the sanctuary in munich", explains marianne wende.

How long an animal stays depends above all on its state of health and whether it is tattooed or chipped. "We have many animals that have a microchip, but the owners have not registered their animal", confirms manu scharf, responsible for cat care.

Some healthy, vaccinated and neutered cats only stay at the shelter for a week after they are handed in, until a new "can opener" is found finds. The most different reasons are called with the delivery. However, illness, divorce, a move to a new city or to a nursing home often lead to the separation of humans and pets. It is very rare that someone gives up his animal because of problems.

Abandoned animals are a problem

Sometimes the employees find abandoned animals in front of the entrance. And that is a rough problem, because their disease history and also their vaccination status are completely unknown. Therefore, each abandoned animal is vaccinated again and must remain in quarantine until the vaccination is complete. "It can take eight to ten weeks for an animal to find a new home", says manu sharply. Illnesses and necessary operations can also extend the length of stay. The chairwoman marianne wende explains: "we had last year over 40000 euro veterinary costs."

Financing by the association

The work of the five half-day staff and two part-time employees is financed by the association, sponsorships, admission fees, memberships, foundation grants, inheritances and protection fees for the donated animals. For a vaccinated, chipped, neutered cat there is a 115 euro protection fee, for a dog 250 euro. "And of course we look at the new home first. The animals have already experienced a lot and the new home should be forever", said marianne wende. Therefore, it is not possible to place a free-roaming cat in a purely residential environment or next to a heavily trafficked federal highway.

Cat kira is looking for a home

For this reason the cat kira has not found a new home even after a year in the shelter. "She is a single cat, does not like dogs or children in the house, needs her free access to nature and likes to cuddle only when she likes it." With these words manu scharf introduces kira and lures her out of her sleeping cave with some treats.

Some of the dogs have also been looking for a new rough home for quite some time, preferably with a fenced garden.

For example, cane corso mongrel sendi, who has an incredible urge to move and needs a lot of attention.

Chihuahua milo suspended

Next to this coarse black powerhouse, the chihuahua milo looks tiny. He was abandoned in front of the shelter at the end of april. Since then, the dog, who is a bit reserved, hopes to find a new owner. For milo a canine companion would be ideal, because playing together in the meadow is much more fun than playing alone.

Anyone who would like to volunteer or give a new home to an animal companion is always welcome at the shelter.

Merz follows up on criticism of merkel's migration policy

In the battle for the future CDU presidency, friedrich merz has added to his criticism of the federal government’s migration course.

The former head of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group said on saturday at the state party conference of the saxon CDU in leipzig: "it is not acceptable for the state to admit that it is temporarily losing control over who enters the territory of the federal republic of germany. And then, if there is no other way, border controls must be introduced to prevent unregulated immigration into the federal republic of germany."

Merz, who has been out of active politics for nine years, had already repeatedly criticized migration policy. Alongside CDU secretary general annegret kramp-karrenbauer, he is considered to have the best chance of succeeding angela merkel. Merkel had also announced under the pressure of electoral flops not to run again as CDU chairwoman after 18 years in office. But she wants to remain chancellor until the end of the legislative period.

Kramp-karrenbauer, merz and health minister jens spahn have presented themselves to the grassroots at eight regional conferences in the past two weeks. Their visit to the state party conference in leipzig was probably their last joint appearance before the election at the national party conference in hamburg next friday. A new state parliament will be elected in saxony in the fall of 2019, as well as in brandenburg and thuringia. In all three countries, the afd is at more than 20 percent according to current polls. In addition, the european elections are coming up in may.

Merz said that the CDU must be associated with "loose competence". "The chancellor herself has said that something like 2015/2016 must not be repeated. And I want to emphasize this once again: it must indeed not happen again that we experience such a situation as in 2015/16," he said to applause with a view to the refugee crisis. "By the way, i don’t want to deny the chancellor’s good intentions here," merz added.

He is a convinced european through and through: "but open borders cannot be an invitation to allow an unregulated influx into the federal republic of germany, over which we have not yet regained control. Because there are still about 200.000 to 250.000 migrants in germany whose whereabouts and origins we know nothing about," merz said. "These are things that we simply cannot allow if we don’t want to accept that extreme political parties will emerge from them," he said, referring to the right-wing populist afd party.

Merz had received a lot of opposition within the party for his claim that the CDU had more or less "shrugged off" the rise of the afd. So kramp-karrenbauer had already sharply rejected the revisions.

"You can argue about a lot of things, whether we did everything right there," said kramp-karrenbauer in leipzig. In the past few years, however, "countless members" and campaigners have gone into the debate with the afd. "And anyone who has ever done this knows how much personal strength it takes to face this hatred and hostility on a daily basis."This is the merit of many members: "and they do not deserve to be accused of not having done enough."

Spahn said to the afd: "we have a share of responsibility, also in the leadership of the CDU, that they now exist in 16 state parliaments and in the bundestag."The cdu leaders had to go to the afd’s strongholds and seek an unbiased discussion of where the cdu had lost voters: "what we need, after all, is an afd voter dropout program."

Merz himself reaffirmed his criticism. "Parts of the CDU underestimate the political danger posed by the afd," he told the "spiegel" newspaper. It is unacceptable that the afd has seats in all state parliaments and 12.6 percent in the federal parliament. "And I have the confidence to change that," he added. "It sends shivers down my spine when people in this country walk through the neighborhood with a hitlergrub," merz told the news magazine. "We have to do something about that. That’s what drives me and keeps me going."

Ostheim mobels out and uniforms in – that’s what happened in manfred greck’s house in fliederweg in ostheim in 1986. Living room, dining room, bedroom and eventually the hallway became a museum. Even the basement and the garage were not spared from the collector’s passion of the man from ostheim. Today, manfred greck is, as he says with a smile, "getting on in years". Age and health force him to slowly empty his museum house.

Over the years, greck has collected 360 exhibits, mainly uniforms – not counting the numerous pictures and documents. "My collection is unique in germany and should come into good hands", he says. His goal is to find interested parties in rhon and grabfeld who will take over his collection.

Thuringian grabfeld was also ideal from his point of view. A town on the former german-german border, for example romhild, was also worth considering, as was bad konigshofen, where the museum for border gangers has been established since 2006.

Landlords in the armed forces

Greck’s passion for collecting began in 1985. At the time, he and his wife inge were landlords in the army canteen in wildflecken. From time to time, uniform pieces were left lying around unclaimed. "We’ll keep them for a while, you never know how you can use something like that", said the grecks. At that time, no one could have imagined that the collection would one day become such an impressive collection. First uniforms came from french, english and american troops. Naturally also from the bundeswehr. The troop training area wildflecken was a training area for the nato.

One special item is the so-called "affenjackle" (monkey jacket), which is what soldiers once called the service jacket of the german armed forces, says the collector from ostheim. One uniform after the other was added, and room after room in the greck house became a museum.

New collection area

With the opening of the inner german border, manfred greck had discovered a new collecting area. Today, therefore, he has not only uniforms from all over the world, but also numerous exhibits from the army stocks of the NVA, the former german democratic republic. A small field cake with crockery and cutlery belongs to it.

Opposite in the corner is a portable toilet. Manfred greck: "in the old days you went into the woods with a spade, today you have something like this with you." Field beds, equipment and many other things are in view.

Even earlier radio with solar power

Then manfred greck reaches into the uniform jacket of an american soldier and has a small black radio in his hand. Crank it several times, and the device is working.

"Look, this was already possible with solar", laughs manfred greck and points to the solar cells on the back of the device. Such devices were dropped by american troops in war zones to inform the population. The tour of the uniform house in ostheim is above all a journey back in time to the "cold war".

If you turn into fliederweg in ostheim, you can see the german flag flying on the mast from far away. There is a guard house underneath. A soldier’s dummy with a scissors telescope sits at the entrance to the house.

Instead of a bell, a field telephone

You can’t find a doorbell, but you can find a field phone. After the cranking, manfred greck at the other end of the line is happy about the visit. In the former living room there are uniforms from GDR times, in between an original black-red-gold border post, as it once stood at the german-german border, a piece of border fence and signs "caution border".

In the next room again uniforms and military insignia. "This is the former "dining room, laughs manfred greck. It shows service medals from england, belgium, slovenia, the bahamas, greece, russia and the federal armed forces. Over each uniform hangs the respective letter of the embassy that sent the uniforms – free of charge, he notes.

The family home is equipped with uniforms up to the roof. Private space, such as a living room, bedroom or study, no longer exists. This was also the case in the former bedroom. There is only the bed. Manfred greck answers the question about his private utensils with a reference to the locker behind the uniforms. "They are on wheels and can be pushed away so that I can get to my things." On the tour of the house, there are medals, certificates, scrolls and awards.

About 900 guests last year

The number of visitors shows how popular the private museum is: about 900 guests visited last year. But the ostheimer is also flexible and, if requested, on the road with an NVA vehicle. "Soldiers used to use them on the column route, now i do my tours from time to time." What is to become of all these exhibits? Manfred greck doesn’t know it yet, but he is sure that someone will find someone to take over this extraordinary collection.
